We don’t like to do things by halves, so for the Summer Crucible Grand final we’re pulling out all the stops to make sure the bouldering is absolutely spot on.
Sadly, to do everything we’re about to describe we’re going to have to close the area for two days; this Thursday and Friday.
So what have we got in store for you that’s going to take two days? Firstly we’re going to strip every single bloc from the walls, then keep going and remove every single volume form the bouldering area. This will leave us with a very blank canvas. “Insert smiley face!”
With the walls totally devoid of holds and volumes we thought the next thing to do would be to treat you to some sexy new volumes. The picture above gives a hint of what they’re all about. Trust us these guys are nasty, no nice edges to wrap your little pinkies around, just pure shallow nastiness. These guys give just enough “volume” to give a bit of shape to the wall, but not enough to take the edge of the steepness. See how much care abut your training? No bridging here we’re afraid!
With some sleek new volumes on the wall, next come the setters. This time our resident setters Ant and Si will be dishing up the horribleness alongside Cailean Harker, Mammut sponsored athlete. Unfortunately for you guys this means you can only expect horrendous Swiss shut down problems. Oh well.
And finally if you’re worried about not having enough to climb for two days because the bouldering is shut, here’s a little run down of what we’ve done in the past few days:
- Set two new circuits on the circuits boards – four circuits in total now.
- Complete reset of all the lines on the autobelay.
- Just over 50 brand new routes in and around the centre, both TR and lead.
Have fun guys and see you at the Crucible Final!
