Engaging Community at Residents Festival

The ‘environment’ was this year’s theme of Newport City Homes Residents Festival at the start of September. Amongst the stalls in attendance Keep Wales Tidy and Wastesavers were there to give advice on keeping  communities clean, reducing waste, re-using and recycling and the Boulders mobile climbing wall even popped up!

Newport City Homes provides services to over 10,000 residents, leaseholders and shared owners in the city of Newport.  Their ambition is to pursue excellence and deliver opportunities for all to transform the quality of homes, communities and lives.  They aim to encourage residents to engage with them and create a confident, dynamic organisation that listens, learns and improves continuously.

The Residents Festival was an idea that staff and residents came up with to help Newport City Homes reach out to and engage with its residents.  The event aims to encourage families and young residents to attend, whilst also engaging older residents.  It was great to be a part of such a positive event and help to involve and engage the community in climbing to promote a healthier and cleaner environment and hopefully encourage people in the community to create habits when it comes to recycling, etc to benefit the environment in the long run.

We hired Boulders climbing wall for our Residents Festival this year.  The event was indoors so we decided to place the wall outside to attract people to us.  This worked really well as lots of people had never seen a climbing wall before, let alone climbed one.  We had over 200 non registered people attend the event and I believe this was down to the wall being visible, attracting people to it.

The staff were extremely helpful, efficient and totally professional.  Nothing was too much trouble.  Our staff decided to climb the wall and have competitions amongst themselves which was good fun and the atmosphere filtered into the main event.  I would definitely recommend Boulders to anyone who was looking to do something a bit different because it appeals to all ages and abilities.
