Climbing birthday party top tips

These top tips will make things easier for anyone who has booked a climbing birthday party and help ensure everything runs smoothly on your big day. Once you have made your booking we’ll pop the birthday invitations in the post with a few spares just in case the guest list changes. You should receive them within four working days of the making the booking, but if they don’t arrive let us know so we can sort out a a fresh set for you.

If you’ve ordered birthday party bags we’ll hand them out on the day with the meal, if you haven’t don’t worry it’s never too late to order them. Our party bags are suitable for children aged ten and below.

You should let us know about any special dietary or other requirements at least a week before the party date.

The climbing party will last two hours, that’s one and a half hours of climbing activities and half an hour in the cafe.

Everyone will be taking part in a physical activity, so come prepared in lace-up trainers, ideally not Velcro and loose fitting trousers. No skirts please.  It’s worth making sure that elbows and knees are covered too – it’ll help reduce the bumps and scratches!

What to do when you arrive on your big day…..

  • Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before the start of your party. This gives us a chance to ensure that all the necessary paperwork has been completed.
  • As soon as you get to Boulders please, inform a member of reception staff that you have arrived.
  • It’s really important that every child has a parental consent form completed by their parents or legal guardian. Please download these from the link below prior to the date of the party and bring the completed forms with you and hand them to a member of our reception staff on the day.
  • On arriving the kids are going to be REALLY excited by the climbing walls.  Please help us by keeping them off the walls until the instructor is ready to start the party.
  • Please hand the birthday cake to any member of the cafe staff. It will be brought out at the end of the meal – we can even light your candles. This is a great opportunity to confirm any dietary requirements with cafe staff.
  • The centre manager will be wearing a red Boulders hoody. If you have any questions or enquiries, make sure to find the person in the red Boulders hoody and they will be able to help you. If in doubt, ask other members of staff to get the guy in the red hoody!

What to expect on the day….

  • We’ll start by playing some fun games to get everyone warmed up ready for the climbing to begin.
  • Next is the traverse wall where we’ll do some low level climbing. This is great as it starts to teach basic climbing moves which will be needed on the big walls!
  • After learning the basic moves, we’ll move over to the larger walls where everyone will get a chance to make a summit bid!  We make sure that everyone gets as many climbs as possible, although the number of climbs will be influenced by the group dynamic and the behaviour of the children. We find that we normally get at least two climbs per person.
  • After the summit bids we’ll take off our harnesses and if there is time play some quick climbing games before sitting down for some food.

Finally the instructor will bring the children back to the cafe area. Once the instructor leaves the group please don’t let the children back on the climbing walls.  We’d hate for someone to hurt themselves because they weren’t being supervised by one of our  instructors.

This is the form you’ll need to down load and ensue is filled in by every child’s parent before the party starts: Supervised Climber.

If you can’t print them off let us know, we can send some to you in the post, alternatively parents may complete the forms when dropping their child off at Boulders prior to the party.

Finally…. There is a great cafe at Boulders with free WiFi, so please feel free to encourage parents to stay and watch – some adults will need to stay to help supervise anyway. If a parent isn’t staying, please ensure they know the party end time so that children are collected promptly. Please make sure you have read and understood our Bookings Terms and Conditions.

What does Pebbles look like, how big is it and how old do children have to be?

The Pebbles soft play area is split into two areas. The ground floor is a dedicated and enclosed under fives area, the rest is for kids aged seven and below.  To take a better look and get more of an understanding take a look at our tour of Pebbles.

The party line for kids in Pebbles is pre school to those aged seven and under. This will mean parents making a decision about when they feel comfortable letting little play in there. We tend to find the weekdays are less busy than the weekends. In addition the average age (and size!) of the kids playing in there tends to be younger on weekdays. As such we recommend trying to find quieter time slots for very little children that want to go exploring anywhere off the ground floor.
