Climbing club - Spider Monkeys
Climbing clubs at Boulders. The Spider Monkeys climbing club aims to give children the opportunity to develop their climbing through regular structured sessions. The Spider Monkeys syllabus covers things like team work, communication, advanced belaying and ropework techniques, as well as climbing technique, training and warm-up routines - sometimes they may even be a little bit of homework!
When a child begins the Spider Monkeys climbing club at age 10, they will work towards their NICAS level 1, followed eventually by NICAS levels 2 and 3. As well as completing the NICAS levels, there are the Boulders' kids award badges to work towards. All the levels and badges are very advanced and hard to complete, so a child would normally be a Spider Monkey for at least two years before graduating into the Geckos climbing club.
Every child attending Spider Monkey climbing attends one instructional session per week over the course of the half term. Over the duration of half an academic term the child will follow a structured syllabus and be taught skills to make them a safer, more competent and help them progress in their climbing career. The Boulders Spider Monkey syllabus uses the NICAS levels as a guide for course content; achieving the next NICAS level is only part of becoming a climber!
If a child is struggling to complete the club's activities, then catch up sessions may be joined at the end of the course. Alternatively, our holiday activities are a great way to cram a lot of learning into a short space of time.
Children that show an aptitude for the competitive side of the sport may be invited to attend the climbing academy selection trials
