Our retail manager here at Boulders actually ran over a Nalgene bottle in a minibus once, and it was totally fine. I once used mine as a tent-peg hammer and only put a tiny crack in it (and if you've ever camped at Eric's below Tremadog, you'll know how much effort it takes to get pegs in there. It didn't even leak afterwards.

Basically, these bottles are made of a super tough plastic which can take a whole lot of abuse. The wide opening makes it easy to fill them with ice cubes in the summer (and even soup in the winter), and there's a loop which is easy to clip to a rucksack or harness.

Now completely free from BPA so totally safe for hot water.
