These are a list of some of our most asked questions. If you have a question about a specific class or course, these types of questions can be found at the bottom of each product page.

Can I just turn up and go climbing or bouldering?

If you have been bouldering or climbing before, and are happy to register yourself as a 'competent climber', 'competent boulderer', or both, then you don't need to book in advance. At reception you will be asked to fill in a registration form that will include a quiz to confirm you know the basics. Then you simply pay your entrance fee and get going!

If you have never been bouldering or climbing before, you will need to either attend with someone who is competent (in which case you don't have to book in advance) or book onto a Boulders class or course. All Boulders' classes and courses need to be booked and paid for in advance.

Can I hire kit such as shoes, harness, belay device, or chalk bag?

You can hire everything you need at the Boulders. You can hire shoes for £3, a harness and belay device for £2.50, or everything including a chalk bag for £5.

Can I bring a friend with me who has never climbed before?

Yes absolutely! The more the merrier! However if your friend has never climbed before, they will need to be supervised at Boulders. This can be by any competent climber or competent boulderer. They will need to fill in a registration form online before they arrive, or fill one out on an Ipad when you arrive. You will then need to sign them in on our 'supervision of a novice' log. Each competent climber/boulderer can supervise up to 2 people at a time.

If you are supervising a novice, they CANNOT BELAY YOU. Even if you have quickly shown them how to do it. It is a Boulders no-go. The superviser has to remain with 2 feet on the floor at all times.

If you are supervising a novice, they CANNOT BELAY YOU. Even if you have quickly shown them how to do it. It is a Boulders no-go. The superviser has to remain with 2 feet on the floor at all times.

If you want to teach a novice how to belay, bring a 3rd person. That way the 3rd person can climb, your novice can belay, and you can safely back them up.

Once the novice has registered themselves as a competent climber they can belay you.

Can the novice I'm supervising belay me?

No! If you're on belaying duty you don't need to pay. If you decide to do some climbing or bouldering after all, you should return to reception and pay for an entry.

If I am only going to be belaying someone, do I need to pay an entry fee?

With a Boulders instructor, children have to be aged 7 and upwards on all sessions apart from the Pumas class/course, where children as young as 6 can climb.

If you are a competent climber/boulderer and you would like to bring your child and supervise them, then the child can be younger than 7. If you are supervising them, they can be as young as you want as long as they can safely fit into a harness.

What age can children start climbing?

It depends on timing. If you are cancelling your session with more than 7 full days notice, you are welcome to a full refund. If you are cancelling within 7 days of the session, there will be a 50% cancellation fee. If you are cancelling on the day, or you don't show up to a session, there will be no refund.

Can I get a refund if I need to cancel my booking?

We love dogs at Boulders! However, we appreciate that not everybody else does. With this in mind, dogs can come into the reception and cafe seating areas at Boulders, but not into any of the climbing areas or the soft play. Dogs must remain on a lead at all times, and if the dog is too loud, messy, or unruly you may be asked to leave.

Can I bring my dog to the centre?
