Pumas club is the first rung on the climbing ladder and an ideal introduction to the climbing centre environment for children. Designed for children aged 6-9 years old, the Pumas club is active and engaging, and will help a child grow in confidence and ability at the same time.

This is an ideal age for children to be introduced to climbing, as climbing helps improve dexterity and co-ordination, encourages spatial awareness, and helps develop motor skills. Plus, it’s also great fun and a great way to meet new friends!

This club doesn’t delve into belaying or knot tying, instead focusing on the climbing experience and sparking a passion for climbing. It does help lay the ground work for further learning.

Does my child need any experience to join Pumas?

No, children don’t need any experience before coming to Pumas. In fact, Pumas is a perfect introduction to climbing!

Does my child need any equipment?

All the equipment your child will need is included in the price of the course. Your child will be provided with a harness, and can either wear their trainers or try on some climbing shoes (also included).

How does my child ‘move up’ to Spider Monkeys?

If your child has enjoyed Pumas and would like to continue their journey into the world of climbing, then when they are ten years old they can book onto a Spider Monkeys course. In Spider Monkeys, children start to learn more skills, knots, and belaying. More info about Spider Monkeys can be found here.

If your child is particularly interested in developing their climbing skills and are not yet ten years old, feel free to speak to your instructor about possible progression.

What is a GOLD membership?

A Boulders GOLD membership is a monthly direct debit that entitles the holder to come climbing as often as they like for one fixed monthly fee. The membership also entitles the holder to 50% off all courses. More info about GOLD memberships can be found here.

My child is really enjoying climbing, and I would like to learn how to belay so I can bring my child more. How do I do this?

This is a great idea! A parent can supervise up to two novices when they are registered as ‘competent’, and there is no charge if you are only belaying. As a parent, you can either book onto an Introduction to Climbing Course (more info here) or book onto a parent Learn to Belay course.
