Want to be stronger? More supple? More focused? Prevent injuries, or heal from an existing injury? Improve your technique? Or are you simply looking to improve your downward-facing dog?

Whether a novice, or an expert, the yoga classes here at Boulders are designed to support your climbing, whilst also helping to develop your flexibility and fitness.

Yoga has been shown to help climbers in many ways:

  • Balance

  • Strength

  • Flexibility – particularly hip flexibility

  • Injury prevention

  • Improved speed of recovery from injury

  • Focus

  • Relaxation

  • Improved sleep

  • Good overall warm up or warm down, before or after climbing

  • Posture

Using the body more mindfully can help you to climb through more demanding sections, to tire less quickly and to recover faster.

Our yoga teacher Tori has tailored traditional yoga teaching and applied it to her teaching for climbers. Classes cost £5 for members and £8 for non members.

Mats are provided – please wear something you can move freely in.

Having climbed for over 20 years, I thought that I’d done everything possible to improve my grade – how wrong I was. Tori has skilfully adapted the practices to incorporate poses, and flow that specifically target those areas that other exercises cannot reach and are essential for good climbing technique. Personally I find that my movement on the walls/rock is a lot more fluid, I can maintain strength even at full reach, as well as being able to keep my body close to the surface now that I have better flexibility in my hips.

My yoga classes at Boulders with Tori have become a real way of life. I honestly couldn’t do without them. I had neck, shoulder and back issues before I started her classes and now I have the tools to help me overcome these. At the end of a class (however tired I feel at the beginning) I always leave feeling so much better - energised and focused . Tori is an excellent teacher who always takes the time to make sure that you get the best out of the session.

Since I started going to the yoga classes at Boulders a couple of years ago I’ve noticed a massive improvement in my climbing, being able to reach further, get my feet higher and stay closer to the wall has been of massive benefit. It’s not just improved my flexibility and my climbing; I’ll often use what we learn in class for other activities like hiking, kayaking and even after the gym to improve my recovery time and mobility.
