FAQs

My child has never done any climbing before. Can they still attend an Activity Day?

Of course! Every child is welcome, from beginners, to children who have done a bit of climbing, to children who are climbing regularly and following NICAS. We aim to teach beginner children the skills and safety elements they need to climb, and expand on those skills in children who already have some experience.

Can we just turn up on the day?

No, all children must be booked in advance.

Can you provide food for my child, or can they spend money in the cafe?

We are not able to provide lunch for the children so it is very important that they bring their own packed lunch. They are able to buy some treats from the café in the afternoon (such as chocolate or sweets) but they won't be able to buy energy drinks. We are a cashless facility so you are able to set up a small tab which you can settle when you pick your child up.

What does a typical day consist of?

A typical day includes top rope climbing, bouldering, high ropes activities, and floor games.

Top rope climbing is when the climber wears a harness and is tied into a rope that is anchored at the top of the wall. A belay device is used to help them climb and ascend safely.

Bouldering is climbing on lower level walls, without the use of a harness or ropes, above crash mats.

My child doesn’t have any climbing equipment. Is equipment included?

Yes, all the necessary climbing equipment is included.

What should my child wear?

Children should wear comfy clothing that they can move around in, and no jewellery.

Types of clothing we recommend: joggers, leggings, t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, jumpers, trainers.

Types of clothing we don’t recommend: Skirts, dresses, jeans, crop tops, ‘short shorts’, sandals, flip flops.

Can my child bring their electronic device, e.g. phone, game console, tablet?

We recommend that your child does not bring an electronic device with them, as they won’t have time to use it and it may be left unattended at times.

Can I drop my child off early and let them sit in the cafe unsupervised until the day starts?

No. If your child is under 18 you will either need to stay with them and supervise them until the day starts.

Can my child complete some of their NICAS course during the day?

Yes this is possible as we do sign off the NICAS syllabus throughout the day.

 What is NICAS?

NICAS stands for the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme. This is a nationally recognised climbing syllabus that helps teach children to climb. We primarily teach NICAS on our after school clubs, but we also can sign off NICAS log books throughout the day. Speak to an instructor or visit reception for more info!

Do you accept Childcare Vouchers?

No. Boulders provides Climbing Coaching during our School Holiday Camps. We are not a Childcare Provider. Boulders operates the School Holiday Camps within The Child Minding and Day Care Exceptions (Wales) Order 2010.
