These are a list of some of our most asked questions. If you have a question about a specific class or course, these types of questions can be found at the bottom of each product page.
Can I just turn up and go climbing or bouldering?
Bouldering: Yes! You can go through our bouldering safety induction any time with no booking required.
Roped climbing: Yes, if you already know how to tie in, belay and use the centre safely.
If you’re a competent climber, once you have registered you can simply turn up anytime we are open and climb. The first time you visit a member of the reception team will ask you a few questions to verify your competency and then you are good to go. You can buy day passes and memberships on the door or HERE to have unlimited use of all our centres!
If you’re not someone who already climbs then we suggest you start here!
Can I hire kit such as shoes, harness, belay device, or chalk bag?
Yes, we offer climbing shoe (£4), harnesses and belay plates (£3), chalk bags (£1) to hire (full set for £6).
Can I bring a friend with me who has never climbed before?
Yes absolutely! The more the merrier! However if your friend has never climbed before, they will need to be supervised if you are using the ropes. You will then need to sign them in on our 'supervision of a novice' log. Each competent climber can supervise up to 2 people at a time.
If you are supervising a novice, they CANNOT BELAY YOU. Even if you have quickly shown them how to do it. The supervisor has to remain on the floor at all times.
We ask that all novice boulderers watch the video on registration and sign themselves in if they are over 18.
Put simply NO!
If you want to teach a novice how to belay, bring a 3rd person. That way the 3rd person can climb, your novice can belay, and you can safely back them up.
Once the novice has registered themselves as a competent climber they can belay you.
Can the novice I'm supervising belay me?
Yes! We run 121 coaching, our Beginners coaching series as well as a whole host of outdoor climbing classes.
Can I book a session with a coach or instructor?
Unfortunately if you are not registered with us as a competent climber or boulderer, you should not enter the climbing areas at any time, unless supervised. This is for your safety and for the safety of those around you. You must be supervised by either a competent climber, or a Boulders instructor.
This includes watching your children climb, or taking photos of others. You must remain in the cafe area and not enter the climbing facilities. Think of it like watching a football match - you wouldn’t stand in the middle of the pitch to take photos!
Can I come into the climbing areas to watch others climb?
I’m a parent of a child under the age of 18. Do I have to pay to belay them?
You don’t need to pay for entrance to belay your child. All you need to do is go to the desk when you arrive and fill out a ‘supervision of a novice’ form.
Can I sign up for a membership?
Yes, See our membership page for more details.
I’m a member and I have a question about my membership, who should I contact?
Please contact memberships@bouldersuk.com with any queries about your membership and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
I’m new! Climbing looks cool, how do I get started?
We offer a variety of options to get into the sport. You can start climbing as an adult or child with one of our instructors where we can show you the ropes, literally! More details on this can be found here:
Why do I have to have my photo taken?
It’s compulsory to have a clear, passport style, photograph on you custom profile for account verification purposes. As a member you are able to use the self scan fast lane to access our centres, our team will glance at your profile to ensure the correct person is entering the facility.
